An Enhanced DBS check is the highest level of DBS check available. It includes everything in a Standard DBS check, plus any additional information held by local police forces that is considered relevant to the role. Employers can also request a check of the children’s and/or adults’ barred lists when the role involves regulated activity.

Barred list checks can only be requested if the role is eligible and involves regulated activity with children or vulnerable adults.
Enhanced DBS checks are available only for specific roles, such as those involving regular care, supervision or contact with children or vulnerable adults. Eligibility is defined in DBS legislation—see official GOV.UK guidance.
At Digital Background, an Enhanced DBS check costs £49.50 plus an admin fee of £4–£7 (depending on account type). Processing can take from a few days up to several weeks, as local police forces review records. If you need results urgently for work with adults, the DBS Adult First check may be available as an add-on.
